For the remainder of this century, the number of persons age 65 and over will be unaffected by our rate of growth. However, their proportion of the population would be affected by how fast the population grows: In the year 2000. they would be 8.9 percent of the population under the 3child average, and 10.6 percent of the population under the 2child average.
